From San Francisco to Mauritius, from Sydney to Barbados, Pride parades, festivals and events happen worldwide. The goal of Pride is increasing the visibility, acceptance and legal protections for LGBTQIA+ people living in those communities. Typically, events start in June, a recognition of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, and have become a celebration of pride for the local community.
Here in Tucson, Pride in the Desert happens in September, avoiding the worst of the summer heat. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t go ahead and start celebrating Pride right now in June recognizing those in our community who identify as LGBTQIA+.
A Pride Project
How about a little Pride project? We love these fingerless mittens designed by Ysolda Teague called Joy. They’re the perfect gift to recognize and celebrate you or those you love who are within the LGBTQIA+ community. There is the sweet intarsia little flag at the cuff, and flag colors worked throughout with simple stranded color work. Joy is the perfect introduction to two types of color work techniques.
We’ve created kits for Ysolda’s pattern including the traditional Rainbow, Transgender, Bisexual and GenderQueer flags. Each kit, which will include Ysolda’s pattern, is $18 and includes a skein of a base color from our Cascade Heritage Solid selection, (we’re partial to the charcoal shown below) and mini balls of Cascade Heritage for the color work. The default base is in the Charcoal grey, but you can choose another base color, just let us know.

Bi, Genderqueer, Transgender, traditional Rainbow flag on cuff.
